Biological fly control

Biological Control Protocol

The protocol is a series of measures and operations to be carried out, in this case to eliminate or significantly reduce flies in a specific location.

Here is the protocol:

FLYMIX INTEGRATED FLY CONTROL

Flies are extremely common insects in most habitats, especially where there is a greater availability of organic substrates. When they exceed certain population levels, they can cause various discomforts and problems that can be summarized as:

  • Annoyance to animals and operators with negative repercussions on production and work yield
  • Economic losses on farms
  • Discomfort for urban areas located near facilities favorable to the development of the insect
  • Possible transmission of diseases and related reports and inspections by Health Authorities.

A biological solution that respects agriculture, animal husbandry, and the environment. Biological control is effective on all types of flies and, in particular, against the housefly, the livestock fly, and the blood-sucking fly. The cornerstone of the Program is the use of beneficial insects (parasitoids) completely harmless to humans, animals, and plants, capable of interrupting the fly's biological cycle.

How beneficial insects work

Beneficial insects action 1 Beneficial insects action 2

Biological control acts on the pupal stage of the fly. Control occurs primarily through the periodic 28-day release of Beneficial Insects, Spalangia and Muscidifurax spp, whose reproduction cycle takes place solely inside the fly pupa which, once parasitized, does not complete its life cycle and dies. The beneficial insects are delivered to you inside special sealed but breathable bags.

The distribution method is manual, by broadcasting, primarily on the edges of the bedding and/or in the manure heap. In this regard, with every removal of bedding or manure, it is recommended to leave an edge of it in order to create an area where parasitoids can continue to live undisturbed.

Parasitoids are absolutely harmless to humans, animals, and plants. They live for about a month and reproduce inside bedding and manure heaps. They do not transmit diseases.
