TRAP FOR POPILLIA JAPONICA BEETLE

ATTENTION: NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE, please call the farm

Popillia japonica is a scarab beetle with a bright metallic green colour, oval shape and variable sizes from 8 to 11 mm in length. The presence of tufts of white hair on the terminal sides of the abdomen and on the terminal part of the elytra makes it easy to distinguish P. japonica from other beetles often found in the same environments. The signs/symptoms associated with P. japonica infestations are found in particular with damage to leaves that appear skeletonised with only the central venation still intact, while flowers and fruits are almost completely destroyed. The larvae, on the other hand, feed below the soil surface and cause damage exclusively to the roots.

Our attractive trap for adult Popillia japonica is equipped with a dual system of sexual and feeding attractants. Beetles, once they enter the collection bag, are unable to exit: the disposable hourglass-shaped collection bags ensure that beetles are safely trapped. The trap can be used for an entire season of insect presence. Under ordinary weather conditions, the bait is effective for 12 weeks. Position the trap at first sightings of the pest (late spring/early summer). Apply one trap every 15 linear metres along two sides of the perimeter where infested plants are located. For example, if the site is 1 to 15 linear metres, place only one trap on each of the two sides. Hang the trap on poles/suitable supports, positioned in sunny areas 1–1.5 metres high from the ground. Position the trap at least 3 metres away from plants to be protected, as they could attract beetles to the foliage if positioned closer. IMPORTANT: Replace the trap when the bag is full. Remove the trap from the site at the end of the season or in the absence of the target insect.
