Popillia Japonica traps

TRAP FOR POPILLIA JAPONICA BEETLE

ATTENTION: CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE, please call the farm

Popillia japonica is a scarab beetle with brilliant metallic green coloring, oval shape and variable sizes from 8 to 11 mm in length. The presence of tufts of white hairs on the terminal sides of the abdomen and on the terminal part of the elytra, allows P. japonica to be easily distinguished from other beetles often present in the same environments. The signs/symptoms associated with P. japonica infestations are found particularly with damage to leaves that are skeletonized with only the central vein still intact, while flowers and fruits are almost completely destroyed. The larvae instead feed below the soil surface and cause damage exclusively to the roots.

Our attractive trap for adult Popillia japonica is equipped with a dual system of sexual and food attractants. The beetles once they enter the collection bag are unable to escape: the hourglass-shaped disposable collection bags ensure that the beetles are trapped safely. The trap can be used for an entire season of insect presence. Under ordinary weather conditions, the bait is effective for 12 weeks. Position the trap at first sightings of the pest (late spring/early summer). Apply one trap every 15 linear meters along two sides of the perimeter where infested plants are located. For example, if the site is 1 to 15 linear meters, place only one trap on each of the two sides. Hang the trap on suitable poles/supports, positioned in sunny areas 1-1.5 meters high from the ground. Position the trap at least 3 meters away from plants to be protected, as they could attract beetles to the foliage if positioned closer. IMPORTANT: Replace the trap when the bag is full. Remove the trap from the site at the end of the season or in the absence of the target insect.
