To work less, save money and improve your horse's life.

What are they?

Enzymes are proteins produced by bacteria found in the intestines, in this case of cattle, which are selected, reproduced and multiplied in culture media. Catalyst Enzymes is a product formulated in the USA, specifically for Badi Farm, which uses a special blend of microorganisms and catalysts with the function of digesting organic matter and guaranteeing a significant reduction in ammonia (transformed into mineral salts) without raising the temperature of the bedding and altering what are the optimal parameters for the horse's life.

This mixture, in addition to creating the ideal substrate for permanent bedding, guarantees a significant reduction of ammonia, without raising the temperature of the bedding and altering the optimal parameters for the horse's life. They are used by many stables, breeding farms, training and workout centers and are also used for our horses! Many trotting and galloping trainers also use them with straw. It is a natural product, non-toxic, non-corrosive or harmful to humans, animals and the environment.

How to activate bedding on wood shavings or sawdust?

Starting from a dirty bedding of at least 7 days prepared by creating a 20 cm high stall – where the droppings have been cleaned without removing urine and dark sawdust – in order to form a substrate in which the enzymes can start working, we mix the bedding well. Daily remove the wet part and the bulk of the droppings, turning the bedding. On the eighth day, remove the wet part and the bulk of the droppings, make a pile of the material in the stall and start with 150 g of Catalyst Enzymes. Use 50 g and spread them evenly over the entire floor. Spread about half of the bedding pile using a rake and spread another 50 g on the surface and then spread the rest, covering with plenty of new material, until reaching a height of 20 cm. From now on, only remove the bulk of the droppings; the bedding must no longer be turned. Every three days, for the first 5 times, broadcast 150 g of enzymes on the bedding and then add shavings or sawdust. (You can use coarse sawdust, because the enzymes working the urine produce steam and mineral salts and therefore the bedding will always be a little damp, just enough to avoid dust problems for the horses). Within 15 days you must reach an optimal compacted bedding of 25/30 cm. The addition of material in this phase is important, since shallow bedding does not allow the enzymes to distribute themselves and work with a certain degree of humidity, moreover this type of bedding will have to last over time (12/15 months) and will have to absorb about 6000lt of urine. Shallow bedding gets damp quickly and its duration is reduced (about 2 months). The material you are going to add will bring savings, lengthening the duration of the bedding.

How to maintain bedding on wood shavings or sawdust?

Maintenance treatments involve broadcasting 100 g of Catalyst Enzymes per week over the entire bedding and to a greater extent in the dirtiest areas (taking into account that males urinate towards the center of the bedding and females instead soil more on the edges), but beware the enzymes must always be on the entire bedding. If you notice an increase in ammonia, increase the treatments and the recommended dose until returning to normal. In very dry periods you can, to better activate the enzymes, dissolve them in water at 30°c.

Here begins the phase that will allow you to save on the material used: about 60% less material is used compared to before. You must always bear in mind that the bedding must be dry and of the color (light or dark) that you want. To obtain a lighter bedding it is good that the addition of the shavings is distributed in two or three weekly interventions and not in a single solution.

Daily operations are limited only to the removal of the bulk of the droppings and to the leveling of the bedding; it must never be turned. Disinfectants or lime must no longer be used on this type of bedding. Catalyst Enzymes is a natural environmental sanitizer.

Our products are also effective for improving straw bedding! The big problem with straw is its low absorbent power so it leaves all the urine on the floor: obviously the bedding does not become permanent but broadcasting 60 g of Enzymes every 2 days on the clean floor, always without disinfectants, helps fight the smell and opposes the onset of ammonia vapors.
